Vampire AU Prequel

Logan didn't do bars, not often any way. Too many people, too much going on... too many girls sniffing for money rather than love. Usually he hated it, but tonight...

Tonight he just needed to get out, to have a few drinks and enjoy the city of LA for what it was. Mindless, soulless, and empty. Really, the more he dwelled on it the more Logan was sure those were exactly the sort of qualities he'd been looking for in home, and he grinned as he polished off his drink and left enough cash on the bar for tip and his tab.

Ignoring the many writhing and twisting bodies on the dance floor, Logan made his way to the exit, ready to head home for the night. Passing the pool table, he pushed open the door and stepped into the night. The streets were busy, but he didn't mind, he'd cut through the alleyway and take a shortcut home.

The lamp light flickered as he stepped into the darkened ally, blinking out just as he headed into the shadows. It was alright though, he wasn't scared, he wasn't some sweet sixteen princess with her virtue to worry about... Logan was tough. He was eighteen now, and he had no fear.

"You think I fucking can? Tear your fucking head off or put a stake through you and that'll make you as dead as you would've been if I hadn't done this," Joe shot back, leaning up toward the kid, baring his teeth slightly. "So fuck you."

"Why didn't you just kill me?" Logan asked, swinging again and trying to ignore the hunger that was building inside him.

"You wanna fucking die?" Joe asked, grabbing his arm and shoving him off. He wasn't that much stronger than the kid anymore, but he was still strong enough and he got up, knocking him to the floor.

"Want me to burn your sorry ass?" he asked, going to the window. "Could just throw you out there."

Logan scrambled away when he hit the floor, moving as far as he could get from the window. "I just want to know why I'm not dead," he said, looking up at the man, desperate for answers.

"Because I fucking took pity on you," Joe replied with a shrug. "Because you were fucking pathetic and I didn't want to deal with that shit. What the fuck does it matter?"

"I was... I was dying!" Logan argued. "I wasn't pathetic. I did what anyone would do. If you think i'm so worthless, why don't you just finish me then?" Logan challenged, refusing to believe that was the true reason the man had done what he did.

"What does it really fucking matter?" Joe asked, his hand falling away from the curtain, staring at the kid. "You're still here, so just fucking deal with it."

Pulling himself to his feet, Logan tilted his chin up with a look of defiane, wandering over and sniffing the man curiously.

Anger.

he could smell anger.

"I'm hungry," he said quietly, curious as to how the stranger would react as he sniffed at his neck.

"Figured you would be," Joe answered, but he didn't offer anything to deal with that hunger. "Can't go out until it gets dark, otherwise you're fucked."

Logan just looked a little twitchy. "Where are we?"" he asked next.

"My house," Joe answered. "There's no one else here right now." But that would change when the sun went down, it always did. After so long in LA, he barely had a night to himself and sometimes it drove him fucking nuts. Sometimes it drove him right out of the house.

"And who are you?" Logan asked, stepping a little closer and giving the man a curious sniff.

And god, that was weird. Really fucking weird. Since when did he rely on sent for information?

"You done smelling me?" Joe asked dryly, but he remembered his first night, the way everything had been amplified, how he'd been able to hear conversations happening blocks away and smell every emotion coming off a person in waves.

"I'm Joe," he said, returning to the TV so that he could click it off. "And you'll learn soon enough not to fuck with me."

"Or what?" Logan asked, clearly not impressed. "You just proved you have no intention of killing me. I don't think that leaves me with a whole lot to fear."

"I get bored easily," Joe said with a small smirk, amused by the kid's assumptions that he'd just keep him around forever. "I've killed people I like a hell of a lot more than you."

"So why me? What do you want?" Logan asked, still not believing the other man would hurt him... despite the fact that he'd killed him only hours before.

"I was bored," Joe said dryly, slumping down onto the couch, sprawled comfortably, his legs spread. "Needed something to do. And I felt sorry for you."

"You were bored?" Logan snapped, looking pissed off all over again.

He knew he couldn't leave, not without bursting into flames at least, but he refused to spend another minute in the same room as the other man.

Stalking off, Logan went to find something to pass the time with.

Joe smirked in amusement, watching the kid go. In a minute or two he'd get up and follow him, find him something to eat, but for now he was content to just sit there.

There wasn't much to see. Bathroom, bedroom... just a normal home.

With a sigh, Logan settled into the bedroom, flopping onto the bed without invitation. Laying down, he was surprised at how tired he wasn't, having thought that the night would have taken a lot out of him. He was just hungry, maybe a little restless too.

For awhile, Joe sat where he was on the couch, but eventually he got to his feet and headed down the hall, finding the kid on the bed. "So who the fuck are you, anyway?" he asked. "So I know who the hell I'm feeding."

Logan sat up a little and shook his head. "Why should I tell you my name?" he asked seriously.

"So I know who the fuck I'm feeding," Joe repeated, lifting one knee onto the bed, moving closer to the kid who was sprawled out there. "You're hungry, I know you are."

Logan couldn't deny that, and he frowned a little as he watched Joe move closer.

"Logan," he said finally. "Logan Echolls."

"Okay," Joe said simply, then held out his arm again, his wrist turned toward Logan. It had healed perfectly from the night before, smooth, white skin over blue veins and he just held it there, waiting.
