Vampire AU Prequel

Logan didn't do bars, not often any way. Too many people, too much going on... too many girls sniffing for money rather than love. Usually he hated it, but tonight...

Tonight he just needed to get out, to have a few drinks and enjoy the city of LA for what it was. Mindless, soulless, and empty. Really, the more he dwelled on it the more Logan was sure those were exactly the sort of qualities he'd been looking for in home, and he grinned as he polished off his drink and left enough cash on the bar for tip and his tab.

Ignoring the many writhing and twisting bodies on the dance floor, Logan made his way to the exit, ready to head home for the night. Passing the pool table, he pushed open the door and stepped into the night. The streets were busy, but he didn't mind, he'd cut through the alleyway and take a shortcut home.

The lamp light flickered as he stepped into the darkened ally, blinking out just as he headed into the shadows. It was alright though, he wasn't scared, he wasn't some sweet sixteen princess with her virtue to worry about... Logan was tough. He was eighteen now, and he had no fear.

"Yeah," Joe answered, because he did know it and he really didn't mind all that much. He'd been a smug bastard since he was a kid.

Logan was silent after that until they were outside, waiting for Joe to lead the way as he slid his hands into his pockets and rocked back on his heels.

"C'mon," Joe said, nodding in the direction they needed to go, then began to walk. It wasn't far from the place Logan was staying, but he walked quickly.

Logan followed, walking with casual grace as he fell into step beside Joe.

They walked in silence, Joe's hands shoved in his pockets and after about ten minutes they arrived at a discrete looking building, which Joe nodded at and then approached.

"This?" Logan asked, looking unimpressed.

"Fuck off," Joe replied as he headed up the walk and then banged on the door. It opened a second later and he nodded at the guy who'd let him in, gesturing for Logan to follow him. The inside was significantly different than the outside.

Logan seemed a little more impressed by the inside, sticking close to Joe as he looked around at all the bodies milling about.

The door slammed closed behind them as Joe led them deeper into the building before he turned back to look at Logan. "You like it better now?" he asked.

Logan nodded, taking in the rich colourd walls and furnishings and the dark clothing that most of the other visitors seemed to be wearing. It was like something out of a drab Gothic drama.

"Not everyone in here is a walking cliche, but a good chunk of them are," Joe murmured as he headed for the bar. "You see anyone interesting?"

Logan's eyes drifted around the room, never pausing long enough to settle on any one person. "I dunno. What do you mean by interesting?" he asked.

"Interesting to you," Joe replied with a shrug and a snort of laughter, ordering a drink for himself. "Anyone that stands out to you."

Logan looked a little unsure, and then nodded at a guy sitting hunched over in the corner. "Who's that guy?" he asked.

Joe squinted over as he was given his beer and then he laughed and said, "Shane. That's Shane. He's hundreds of years old, man, weird as fuck. But they let him in because he's so fucking old. You wanna meet him?"

"I dunno, I guess," Logan shrugged casually. He had wanted to meat other vamps after all, hadn't he?

"You want a drink first?" Joe asked. Logan seemed sort of uncomfortable, but he'd been the one who'd wanted to come in the first place.

"Yeah, okay," Logan shrugged, turning to the bar and signaling the guy over so he could order a beer. He wasn't uncomfortable so much as he was overwhelmed though, and he tried to look relaxed.

Joe sipped his own beer, looking through the crowd of people until he saw someone he recognized coming closer. When she pushed between two people nearby, she grinned at Joe and he grinned back.

"Jennifer," he said as she leaned in and wrapped an arm around his neck in a hug.

Logan quirked a curious brow, but didn't interrupt. Instead he simply sipped his beer as his gaze flickered between Joe and the woman.

"Been awhile," he said when she pulled away and she shrugged a bit, then glanced over at Logan.

"Who's this?" she asked curiously.

"This is Logan," Joe said, introducing him. "Logan, this is Jennifer."

"Hey," Logan said, offering her a nod and glancing at Joe in hopes of some sort of explanation of who she was.

"Me and Jen met when I came here," Joe explained. "She knew who I was. It gets easier the longer you're like this to figure out who the other vampires are."

Jennifer nodded and leaned against the bar, offering Logan a smile. "You smell like him," she said.

"Oh yeah? Guess I'll need to start wearing more cologne," Logan smirked.

"It won't help you," Jennifer replied simply, offering Logan a bright, flirtatious smile before she grabbed her drink off the bar and turned away, disappearing into the crowd.

"Well, now you've met Jen," Joe said, watching her go.
