Camping (locked to Joe, backdated to Sept 29th)

Seeing as how he and Neil had been fighting about damn near everything all week, Logan had been more than a little eager to go camping with Joe by the time Saturday morning rolled around. So eager, in fact, that he'd already been to the compound to find a sleeping bag in the clothes box (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed no less), and had packed his make-shift bag before Joe had even come to find him.

For once Logan was ahead of the game, knocking on Joe's door to see if he was ready.

God, he'd never thought he'd be so eager to stare at trees for nearly forty-something hours.

"Hey, you ready?" he asked, knocking once and then pushing the door open a crack. "I grabbed some food for us to take or whatever... so, uh, I'm ready to go when you are man."

"He should. He did more on his year on the Council than all of the fucking members combined," Joe said simply and he knew that was the truth, or close enough.

"I believe it," Logan said simply, gesturing for Joe to come sit with him.

Moving over, Joe dropped to the ground beside Logan, his legs stretched out in front of him. "You ever think maybe there's no point to the shit we do here?"

"Sometimes," Logan admitted. "Don't like to think about it that way... but sometimes it's hard not to. Scares the shit out of me to think tomorrow I could wake up in Neptune, and not remember any of this. 'Cause this... I've never had a life this good, Joe. There were good days, but mostly it was just a mess. Just broken noses and lovers who got sick of my shit. If I went home tomorrow, and all of this just vanished from my mind, I dunno how long I'd survive."

"You think you forget when you go back?" Joe asked, chewing on his lower lip briefly as he thought about it. "You think that's it? You just go home and wake up thinking it's the same fucking day?" Maybe that was how it worked. Maybe if he went back, he really would be dead.

Or maybe the island wasn't really the second chance at all.

"I dunno," Logan sighed. "I mean, maybe we don't go back... maybe this is it. Maybe this is just the last stop before we move on for good. I mean, who's to say we aren't all dead? Last thing I remember I was drunk on a beach in Weevil's territory. Who knows what the fuck happened to me, man. And Neil? Neil was bleeding on a fucking sidewalk."

"And I was sure as fuck dead," Joe agreed with a soft snort. "So was Billy." But that didn't explain everyone else. "A lot of us were, I figure. But there's a lot of people who weren't, people who just turned a fucking corner, y'know?"

"Anything can happen when you turn a corner," Logan replied simply.

"Yeah? Walk into a fucking bus?" Joe asked with a faint smirk. It didn't make sense to him that everyone on the island was dead, but he supposed it might be possible.

Logan laughed at that, even though it shouldn't have been funny, and shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno, man. I'm just saying... This place could be anything, and we could be going anywhere. I guess I just like to think there's a reason we're here, even if it's just to make life last a little longer or something simple like that. I can't let myself believe it's all for nothing. It hurts too much to think like that."

"I don't think about it much at all," Joe admitted and he wondered if that was a problem. This place could be good to him and he didn't want to worry about when or if he would lose it all. Or even lose half of it.

"I do," Logan confessed. "I think about it a lot. I think about what's next, and what'll happen to the people I care about when they leave."

"I dunno if I could deal with it if anyone else disappeared right now," Joe admitted quietly. "That's why I don't think about it."

Logan nodded a little, and managed to keep his mouth shut on the topic after that. He didn't want to ruin Joe's weekend by dragging up depressing discussions.

"Doesn't matter much right now anyway," Joe pointed out with a small shrug. "It's not like there's much we can do about it, right?"

"Can't do a damn thing," Logan sighed.

"Worrying feels so fucking useless now," Joe agreed with a nod, his legs stretched out. "I mean, what's the fucking point? All this shit happens whether or not we worry."

"It's not like we can just force ourselves not to care, not without shutting everything and everyone out... And trust me, I've tried that, it doesn't work. It never works," Logan frowned.

"Been working for me," Joe pointed out, although that wasn't really the truth. What had been working for him was simply staying away from everything with the exceptions of Logna, Dale, Anne and Neil.

"Liar," Logan said simply, giving Joe a look.

"Fuck you, I don't have a dishonest bone in my body," Joe said with a laugh, grinning over at Logan. "Never lied in my entire life."

"Fucking liar," Logan laughed, reaching over and pinching Joe's arm before giving him a playful shove.

"Jesus Christ," Joe said, laughing as he tugged his arm away from Logan. "What the fuck is it with you and pinching, man? I had bruises the last time you did it."

"Less violent than punching, more violent than hugging," Logan answered simply, as if that explained everything.

Joe snorted, examining his arm and then looked over at Logan and said, "Fine, but you have to explain the bruises to Dale next time."
