It had been a few days since he and jack had woken up ill, and Logan was feeling better.

Silently, he slipped out of bed, leaving Jack to get some more rest as he headed into the kitchen to brew some coffee and make some breakfast. It didn't take long, and soon he was standing at the bottom of the stairs calling for Jack to come downstairs.

He had a lot he wanted to get done. He wanted to do the tree and start talking about gifts. The holidays were getting closer, and this year they where going to be perfect... He was sure of that.

"You think I don't worry about the same thing?" Logan asked. "Jack, I worry every time you smile at someone. Every time you talk to House or flirt with the newest arrival... I know you could do better than me, and I don't know what I'll do when you finally work out that I'm- no where near good enough."

Jack turned his head slowly to look at Logan. His eyes stung and they glistened in the low light.

"You're a better man than I deserve," he said with such gravity that it nearly choked him. "I think that since I've been with you, I've become a better person. I need so much, and you give me everything and more. You never hold back with me, and you don't let me run away from...anything. I can be selfish. I can be quiet. I can be anything and I know you aren't scared of me or repulsed by my past- or my future. You live now, and that's all that matters. I've always had to be so strong, Logan. You make it okay to let go sometimes. Do you get what that means to me? To have someone I trust to be here while I figure out what kind of guy I am?"

It wasn't like Jack to be so open and honest, and Logan didn't take it lightly.

Holding on tighter, he kissed Jack's cheek and stroked his hair. "And I'll still be here even after you've worked it out. No matter what you become- I'm not leaving. I love you, all of you, all sides. That's never gonna change, Jack. Ever. I swear on my life."

"I know that," he said as he brushed his lips against Logan's face.

"And no matter what, when you'r strong, Ill love you. When you're fragile, I'll love you. Nothing you can do is ever going to drive me away. Even if you can't be secure in the knowledge of anything else- and let's face it...it can be hard to feel secure on this island about anything- I. Will. Be. Here."

Logan hid his face against Jack's neck, inhaling deeply and letting out a long sigh. "I know. I believe you. I never thought there would be someone who'd stay with me- but I know you will, Jack."

He moved closer, wincing when something else on the bed snapped and sagged.

"...I really hope you're planning on fixing this," he said with a soft laugh.

"You're the one who broke it," Jack pointed out. Maybe you should fix it." He was going to fix it, of course. It was a just a couple slats, he was sure. It was still not as fun to let Logan off the hook entirely.

"I can't believe you broken the bed. Do you know how long it's been since we broke furniture?"

"I didn't break it," Logan protested. "You broke it. And it's not my fault we break things- really. Okay sometimes it is," he admitted, trailing off and glancing to the side.

"...Whatever, I'm not fixing it. We can totally put the mattress on the floor. You like it there anyway," he accused, giving the other man a wicked sort of look.

"We can deal with it later though- After we shower."

Jack had a feeling that Logan would fix it eventually. While Jack didn't mind sleeping on a barely-padded section of floor, he knew what Logan was accustomed to. And he knew the man could make really good furniture when he put his mind to it.

"Okay, whatever," he replied noncommittally. "Why don't you get up. Carefully. I think we go slow, we won't make it any worse than it is."

Logan groaned a little and then slowly got to his feet, the bed creaking as he slipped off the mattress.

"Come on, hurry up. I have plans to make today's shower really good," he promised, stretching a little and rolling his shoulders.

He rolled out of bed and landed on his knees so he could look below it and assess the damage. Just a couple cracked boards...nothing that would be hard to fix. Jack sat back on his heels and looked up at Logan.

"A really good shower..." he remarked, delighted by the sound of it. He'd felt gross before, covered with the residue of sleep, and now he was even worse.

"Sounds good. Just let me get dressed," he added, climbing to his feet as he checked his arms for the actual damage there.

Logan could see the welt like marks he'd left on Jack's arms, and he was fairly sure they looked worse than the bruise on his ass or the bright red mark on his cheek. Still, he wasn't sorry, and he didn't appologize. If you asked him, Jack looked better like that.

"Okay. I'm gonna get dressed and then grab a few things. I'll meet you outside," he added, making it clear that Jack wasn't going to see what he was bringing until they were there.

Jack just gave a nod and picked out a few clothes. Ones that were already dirty to put on, some clean, warm ones to layer on afterward. And, of course, the winter things. It wasn't long before he was at the door and dressed for the hike to the compound.

"Would you hurry up?" he called, teasing...mostly. Then he opened the door and stepped out. The dogs looked up from their bed by the fire like he was crazy.

"Don't rush me!" Logan called back.

He did the same as Jack. tossing on some clothes that needed washing, but grabbing some clean clothes before slipping on his winter coat and grabbing one last thing.

He slipped the surprise into his coat pocket, and quickly headed downstairs.

He only paused long enough to give both the dogs a scratch, and then hooked his arm with Jack;s and lead the other man outside.

It didn't seem as cold as before, of course, he wasn't burning with a fever this time, either. He kept Logan close and smiled at the decorations. It seemed that now that a few days had passed, everything was decorated. There were even some train tracks clear of snow. Jack listened and there was a high pitched whistle off in the distance.

"Have you noticed a train?" he asked, looking at the tracks for a second before continuing on to the compound.

Logan looked down at the tracks and then over at Jack. "Nope," he said honestly. "Maybe some turn of the century villain turned up with them. You know, to tie damsels too," he quipped lightly, squinting as he tried to focus on what looked like a train heading their way.

Jack caught sight of it and snorted.

"It's too little to do anything to a damsel," he remarked. "It looks like it was made for kids."

"I bet it would take us to the compound," Logan said thoughtfully, looking down at the tracks. "Want to catch a ride and find out?" he asked.

Jack hardly had time to think about it when the train crept slowly toward them and came to a stop with a sigh.

"I guess, as long as it stops there, too," he shrugged, then tugged Logan along as he climbed in. As soon as they were settled, the train whistled and then lurched forward.

Logan settled into the seat beside Jack, unconcerned with how small and tight the space was. "If it doesn't, I'm pretty sure we could jump off," he pointed out.

He could still smell sex on the other man, warm familiar and heavy... It was a strange comfort, and he draped an arm over his shoulders as he leaned in to kiss his cheek.

With Logan as close as he was, Jack's mind wandered to where it always seemed to wander and he found himself wondering if they could have sex on this thing while it wound its way around the island. After all, how many opportunities like this could they possibly get. He turned his head to kiss Logan back, but the train had rounded a curve and was already slowing to stop at the compound.

"Okay...that was fun," he conceded. "Now, lets go get cleaned up. I feel filthy."

"You are filthy," Logan smirked, smacking Jack's cheek playfully before slipping out of the train and dashing towards the compound doors to get out of the snow.

He didn't wait for Jack to follow, heading straight for the showers they always used and starting to undress while he waited for the water to heat up.

Jack followed along at a leisurely pace, finding Logan nearly undressed by the time he walked in, only his coat off and slung over his arm.

"Now that is a nice sight to walk in on," he smirked before he proceeded to start to strip himself. The water was steaming out of the stall and he was more eager to wash than he'd thought he was.

Logan rolled his eyes a little, leaving his clothes in a pile and pulling something from his coat pocket.

"Just get in the shower already," he snorted.

He stretched hard and then padded into the shower without a word. The spray was so hot it stung and he curled his arms in front of his chest for a minute before he turned around to let it beat on his back.

"Jack groaned and curled over, the heat seeping through his skin. It was so good that he didn't pay attention to Logan at all as the younger man joined him.

Logan said nothing at first, moving to stand behind Jack and pressing up tightly against him.

"I love you," he murmured, catching one of Jack's wrists and pulling it back as he looped the short length of rope he'd brought with him around it and knotted it firmly. "I'll always take care of you... You'll always take care of me too, right?" he whispered, his voice surprisingly low and rough as he caught the other wrist and quickly bound them together.
