One Year Later AU

After six months in New York, Logan couldn't say he was that thrilled to be back in LA. Not that New York had been fantastic either, though the change of diet had been nice. People out there tasted better. Fresher. Less like fake tan and carrot juice and more like good wine and stake.

He'd only been back a day though, and the fact that he was already bored out of his mind was a bad sign. Sure, he'd upgraded to a better hotel with a bigger room and better staff who could better serve his needs (nothing better than a hotel run by a fellow Vampire to call home), and yeah, after his latest business venture he had more money than he'd need for the next three decades or so... But he was bored. Bored of LA. Bored of everything. Maybe it was time to try somewhere new.

Europe has always been very vamp friendly, or so he'd been told, and he wondered what Italy was like this time of year.

An older man came to stand beside him, leaning against the bar and looking him over. Human, late thirties, good health... and a stake in his coat pocket. Thrill killer. There was always one that snuck into the club, if it wasn't this guy, it would be someone else. When he reached out and stroked Logan's cheek, Logan smirked, tilting his head and playing the role of naive young blood. Five minutes later and they were in one of the back rooms... ten minutes later and Logan was back at the bar, blood on his shirt and the wooden stake sitting next to his beer like a trophy.

Hunters weren't like the rest of LA. They tasted just fine.

"I dunno," I say, tipping my head over to look at him with something close to a smile, "Guess I was expecting... something." I let my eyes drag over him, smile going a little nasty around the edges. "More."

And yeah, maybe I am trying to get under his skin, but I half expect him just not to give a shit. Sometimes it's really fucking hard to tell with him, and half the fun is poking around to find out just the right way to make him squirm.

Logan glared at that, but refused to react. "Like you know anything about me," he muttered, waving the woman back over and telling her he wanted another drink.

"You trying to piss me off? Hoping I'll pin you to the wall and screw you if you annoy me enough? God knows sex is the only thing you ever think about... It can't possibly be that you were hoping for a more engaging conversation or debate."

"How the fuck am I supposed to know anything when you won't tell me a goddamn thing? Makes for real fucking engaging conversations, and who fucking said I'd even let you touch me?" I say, barring my teeth at him, "'Cause if all I wanted was to get fucked, I'd have just gone back with you to that fucking luxury suite of yours."

"Whatever," Logan muttered, "So what then? Why are you here if you have such a problem with me?"

"'Cause you're... I dunno. Family," I say with a light cough of laughter, pushing myself to my feet and wandering back over to the bar with a shrug, "Guess maybe you never did feel it like I did."

"I felt it, alright?" Logan said with a frown. "Don't give me that, cause you know I felt it. I just... don't see why you care now.'

"Why the fuck wouldn't I?" I ask, throwing him a quick, curious glance over my shoulder.

"Because the connection's gone. We haven't fed from one another in months," Logan shrugged. "I mean, it's there, obviously, but too weak to effect you."

"Maybe not as strong anymore. Doesn't hurt like it did, but it's still there," I shrug, leaning my hip against the bar and sipping slowly from my refilled glass.

Logan just looked away. "You should sit down, we'll be landing soon," he said simply, slouching in his seat.

"Whatever," I mutter, rolling my eyes and walking over to collapse in my seat.

"Whatever," Logan echoed, rolling his eyes at the other boy as the pilot announced their arrival.

Turning to look at the window as the plane lands, I'm up out of my chair as soon as we've stopped, waiting near the hatch for them to let us the fuck outta this place.

He's right. I don't even know what the fuck I'm doing here.

Stepping up behind Neil, Logan rested his chin on the other boy's shoulder and whispered in his ear. "Not my fault you want me, Neil. Don't be a little bitch about it. Now, are we going to have a good time, or not?"

"I dunno, are we?" I murmur, leaning back against him and turning my head 'til my nose bumps against his. But it's only for a second, 'cause when the door opens, I pull away and head down the stairs, turning too look over my should at him as I step out into the colder air.

Growling a little, Logan followed.

There was a car waiting for them, a blonde woman in the back with a PDA in her hand, rattling off the accommodations she'd made.

Weeks worth of food in the cellar, numbers of local vamps plugged into his phone... blah blah blah, whatever.

Once they were there, she sighed and gave Logan a look. "Keep your phone on, you still have deals to push through. If you need transport, call me and I'll make sure you get a car. Dump the bodies back in the cellar when you finish with them, I'll send a crew in daily for you... I'll make sure they don't disturb you. And if you need anything, call me."

Logan rolled his eyes and nodded, looking relieved when the car came to a stop.

Slipping into the car and leaning against the door, I watch them in the dim glow of the street lights, only half listening to the instructions she's spouting off. His annoyance is pretty fucking obvious, and I wonder what the fuck that's about, but really... I don't give a fuck.

When the car rolls to a stop, I'm out the door and waiting for him to finish up whatever the fuck business he's got, ducking down to poke my head through the door with a smirk and say to her, "I'm sure we'll manage just fine. Right, Logan?"

"Adult," Logan told the woman, pointing at himself. She didn't seem to agree but he was out the car before she could argue. "Fuck is it cold," he swore, pushing open the front door and heading inside.

"Goddamn ski town, what the fuck'd you expect," I laugh, shoving my hands deep into my pockets and sticking close to him without even thinking about it. It's easy to slip back into old habits. Creatures of fucking habit, right?

It was warmer inside, and it only took a moment for Logan to figure out the electric fireplace. "Looks like a snowstorm is coming," he murmured.

Ducking to peak out one of the windows through a tiny slit in the curtains, I lift one shoulder in a shrug, wandering into the room to get a look around.

"So, when do I get the tour?"

"You have legs and eyes, not hard to figure it out for yourself. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spa room, living room, dining room, kitchen... and a cellar. I'm sure you can figure out which is which," Logan snorted.

"Where's the fun in that?" I ask, arching a brow as I wander over to the closed door near the stairs, pulling it open and ducking my head inside. Its pitch black, and I hear scuffling deep down in the depths of the room and what sounds like a small, muffled whimper before I shut the door.

Maybe later. Still not real excited with the whole delivery thing. But hell, I guess it's better than fucking starving to death. Or whatever.

"Dunno, maybe you'll find something exciting," Logan suggested. "Why do I always have to be the entertainer? It's your turn."

"You're the host, remember?" I remind him with a smirk, ducking into one of the bedrooms and circling around the huge bed that I'm pretty sure is bigger than my entire fucking bedroom was growing up.
