One Year Later AU

After six months in New York, Logan couldn't say he was that thrilled to be back in LA. Not that New York had been fantastic either, though the change of diet had been nice. People out there tasted better. Fresher. Less like fake tan and carrot juice and more like good wine and stake.

He'd only been back a day though, and the fact that he was already bored out of his mind was a bad sign. Sure, he'd upgraded to a better hotel with a bigger room and better staff who could better serve his needs (nothing better than a hotel run by a fellow Vampire to call home), and yeah, after his latest business venture he had more money than he'd need for the next three decades or so... But he was bored. Bored of LA. Bored of everything. Maybe it was time to try somewhere new.

Europe has always been very vamp friendly, or so he'd been told, and he wondered what Italy was like this time of year.

An older man came to stand beside him, leaning against the bar and looking him over. Human, late thirties, good health... and a stake in his coat pocket. Thrill killer. There was always one that snuck into the club, if it wasn't this guy, it would be someone else. When he reached out and stroked Logan's cheek, Logan smirked, tilting his head and playing the role of naive young blood. Five minutes later and they were in one of the back rooms... ten minutes later and Logan was back at the bar, blood on his shirt and the wooden stake sitting next to his beer like a trophy.

Hunters weren't like the rest of LA. They tasted just fine.

"Fuck off," Logan snorted, taking the drink.

Lowering myself into the seat next to him, I sip on my drink, slower than with the last, rolling the glass between my palms and listening to the ice clink against the sides.

"More hunters in town," I say after a moment, "Thought maybe things were 'bout to get more interesting 'round there. Just a bunch of second rate assholes looking to get off on a few easy kills. Like that one you must've gotten a hold of earlier."

"Must be the season for it," Logan muttered. "New York was full of them too. Had a run in with one."

He didn't mention that the bastard had nearly got him.

"A run in?" I say, crooking a lopsided grin at him over the rim of my glass, "That mean you got your ass kicked?"

"It means some asshole tried to cut my head off," Logan scowled. Though, to be fair, he'd known what the guy was when he let him into his home. Logan just liked the thrill of a fight.

It had been reckless, and Joe would have punched him in the face for being so stupid. Not that he cared what that old bat thought.

"Guess it's a good thing he didn't," I say, leaning back in my seat and glancing at him sideways, just a twitch of a playful smile on my lips. Its the closest he'll get to me saying I didn't really mind running into him in the bar tonight.

"Yeah, my afterlife rolls on," Logan sighed, sipping his drink, and shaking his head no when the woman offered him a pillow.

"Just as fucking boring as the real life before it," I say without much sympathy, huffing out a laugh and waving the girl away before she starts bringing me fucking blankets.

"Real life was never this dull," he promised Neil, but he made no move to say anything more on the topic.

"Should've let him do it, then," I say, rolling my eyes and knocking back the last of my drink.

"Fuck you," Logan replied simply, finishing off his drink.

"Yeah, whatever," I say, huffing out another laugh and turning away with an amused, pretty fucking nasty grin. For all his talk about how fucking pathetic I am, he sure as hell's working hard to surpass me.

"What?" Logan asked, looking over. "What's so amusing?"

"Nothing. I dunno. You. This," I say, waving my hand around the cabin that looks more like some kind of fucking stripper lounge than an airplane. "It's all fucking... bullshit."

"Thank you for that deep an insightful look into my life," Logan said, scowling a little. "If it's such bullshit, why are you here?"

"I dunno," I say, tipping my head over to look at him with something close to a smile, "Guess I was expecting... something." I let my eyes drag over him, smile going a little nasty around the edges. "More."

And yeah, maybe I am trying to get under his skin, but I half expect him just not to give a shit. Sometimes it's really fucking hard to tell with him, and half the fun is poking around to find out just the right way to make him squirm.

Logan glared at that, but refused to react. "Like you know anything about me," he muttered, waving the woman back over and telling her he wanted another drink.

"You trying to piss me off? Hoping I'll pin you to the wall and screw you if you annoy me enough? God knows sex is the only thing you ever think about... It can't possibly be that you were hoping for a more engaging conversation or debate."

"How the fuck am I supposed to know anything when you won't tell me a goddamn thing? Makes for real fucking engaging conversations, and who fucking said I'd even let you touch me?" I say, barring my teeth at him, "'Cause if all I wanted was to get fucked, I'd have just gone back with you to that fucking luxury suite of yours."

"Whatever," Logan muttered, "So what then? Why are you here if you have such a problem with me?"

"'Cause you're... I dunno. Family," I say with a light cough of laughter, pushing myself to my feet and wandering back over to the bar with a shrug, "Guess maybe you never did feel it like I did."

"I felt it, alright?" Logan said with a frown. "Don't give me that, cause you know I felt it. I just... don't see why you care now.'

"Why the fuck wouldn't I?" I ask, throwing him a quick, curious glance over my shoulder.

"Because the connection's gone. We haven't fed from one another in months," Logan shrugged. "I mean, it's there, obviously, but too weak to effect you."

"Maybe not as strong anymore. Doesn't hurt like it did, but it's still there," I shrug, leaning my hip against the bar and sipping slowly from my refilled glass.

Logan just looked away. "You should sit down, we'll be landing soon," he said simply, slouching in his seat.
