Vampire AU Prequel

Logan didn't do bars, not often any way. Too many people, too much going on... too many girls sniffing for money rather than love. Usually he hated it, but tonight...

Tonight he just needed to get out, to have a few drinks and enjoy the city of LA for what it was. Mindless, soulless, and empty. Really, the more he dwelled on it the more Logan was sure those were exactly the sort of qualities he'd been looking for in home, and he grinned as he polished off his drink and left enough cash on the bar for tip and his tab.

Ignoring the many writhing and twisting bodies on the dance floor, Logan made his way to the exit, ready to head home for the night. Passing the pool table, he pushed open the door and stepped into the night. The streets were busy, but he didn't mind, he'd cut through the alleyway and take a shortcut home.

The lamp light flickered as he stepped into the darkened ally, blinking out just as he headed into the shadows. It was alright though, he wasn't scared, he wasn't some sweet sixteen princess with her virtue to worry about... Logan was tough. He was eighteen now, and he had no fear.

"You stick around here, you'll figure them out pretty quickly," Joe answered with a shrug. And he wasn't embarrassed by his fear of them, not after seeing them torture other vampires -- and not in the fun way -- just for looking at them the wrong way.

"They didn't look that scary," Logan replied.

"You know the bullshit saying, looking can be deceiving," Joe pointed out with a snort. "What does it matter now anyway, they're not here." Not yet, anyway, they might find out where Logan was staying just to fuck with him.

"Whatever, I was just asking," Logan shrugged. "You want a beer?" he offered.

Joe nodded, more out of habit than anything, then said, "Y'know what I really fucking miss about being alive, man? Drugs, booze, cigarettes. They don't fucking do anything anymore. Not in the same way."

"But you said they use in the backroom," Logan replied, bringing Joe a beer and sitting down nearby.

Joe nodded as he took the beer and said, "Lotta opiates. They're the closest to feeling like what they used to. Mostly heroin." But Joe had never been big on heroin.

"Yeah?" Logan asked, looking interested. "And it can't kill you, right? Like, 'cause we're dead already and all..."

"Can't kill you, no," Joe agreed, shaking his head. "There's no such thing as overdosing when you're like this. No such thing as alcohol poisoning."

"Can we then? I mean... just us. Just for fun?" Logan asked with a grin.

"You wanna go out and get something or do you just wanna drink until there's nothing left?" Joe asked, grinning in return.

"Let's... get something," Logan said with a casual smirk.

Joe took a sip of his beer and then nodded at the door. "Let's go then," he said, getting to his feet.

"Seriously, you're, like, gonna take me to go get high? And you aren't mad about the thing outside the club? You going soft on me man?" Logan teased.

"There's shit worth getting worked up about and then there's just shit," Joe replied with a smirk. "Are you coming or not?"

"Of course I'm coming," Logan laughed, what else am I gonna do?" he asked, following.

"Hang out here?" Joe asked, lifting an eyebrow in amusement as he headed for the door, opening it and stepping out into the hall.

"Yeah, that sounds thrilling," Logan laughed, holding lightly onto Joe's arm as they walked.

"Never know what pushes your buttons," Joe pointed out, heading down toward the elevator. He was cautious, but not noticeably so, just looking out.

"Trust me, the things that push my buttons are way more exciting," Logan laughed.

"That's what you say now..." Joe replied with a smirk, stepping into the elevator and giving Logan a grin that bordered on a leer.

"What does that even mean?" Logan asked with a laugh. "Seriously, what do you mean 'that's what you say now'?"

"It means 'that's what you say now'. You might not say it two days from now," Joe answered. "Means exactly what it sounds like."

"You think you're kinkier than me?" Logan asked, quirking a brow.

"That's not what I said at all," Joe answered with a laugh. "You sure got a talent for reading into things and turning every word into an insult."
