Logan's head had stopped pounding less then a day after the accident. He'd taken a hard hit, but he was alright, and other then a small cut and a bruise that was turning a pleasant shade of purple, Logan wasn't looking much worse the wear. He was sleeping a lot though, more then usual even, but he wasn't sure he could blame the bump for that. No, sometimes Logan just didn't like getting out of bed.

For the last hour or so though, he hadn't really been sleeping, just sort of drifting in and out. One minute he was awake and almost ready to get up, and the next he'd roll onto his side and find that perfectly warm spot on the bed... the one that made it all too easily to let his eyes drift shut again. Neil was out, probably walking Max, so there was no one nagging him, no one to tell him to stop being lazy and to go eat something. It was nice, and Logan planned on enjoying it just a little longer.

He'd found that spot again, and he was just about to settle back in for at least another ten minutes of lazing about... when someone said his name.

No, not just someone.

Logan would have recognized that voice anywhere, anytime. He new what it sounded like on film and on the phone, and he knew what it sounded like when the older man was there. Logan knew Aaron Echoll's voice better then anyone else's.

Eyes snapping open, Logan sat up almost instantly, his body tense as he listened. Maybe he'd imagined it... maybe it had been a dream,

But no, there it was again.

"Logan?"

Getting to his feet, Logan slowly walked to the door, peering around it with a worried look. His chest was tight and he was pretty sure he was sweating, but he made sure not to let anything show on his face as he headed outside and looked around. Making his way around to the back of the hut, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. "Dad?" he said quietly, unsure and uneasy.

And there he was, Aaron Echolls, not a foot away. He had that look on his face, angry and pinched so tight the the lines in his face seemed deeper then usual. He took a step closer and Logan instantly took a step back, right onto someone's foot.

Logan frowned but he didn't complain, focusing instead on his feet end the way they looked beneath the surface of the water. "What about the other thing?" he asked a moment later.

"Oh," Joe said, realizing that Logan had meant the kiss, not the near suicide. "No, I didn't tell him about that." For some reason he imagined it would hurt Dale and he didn't want to do that. Especially not when he'd been such a prick to him lately.

"Good," Logan replied simply, relaxing a little and letting out a sigh.

"Figured it'd be kind of an asshole move to tell him about that," Joe admitted. "And considering all the other asshole moves I pulled on him I figured he didn't deserve that one."

"Why? ...You didn't do anything wrong. You're the one who stopped it," Logan pointed out, more to be fair than anything else. "I was the one who fucked up."

"You didn't fuck up," Joe said immediately, because he didn't want Logan to think that. "The thing with Dale... I don't think he gets it. How I see him. I don't want to give him more reason to not get it and think I don't want him."

"I did, Joe, I did fuck up," Logan argued. "But I get that, why you haven't told him, and I'm glad. I wasn't... I wasn't trying to screw that up for you. That wasn't what I was doing."

"I know you weren't," Joe said, rubbing a hand over his head, wincing slightly as he touched the light sunburn. "I didn't think you were."

Pulling his feet up and out of the water, Logan wrapped his arms around his knees and sighed. "I dunno what I was trying to do."

"Doesn't matter, it's okay," Joe said, lifting his hand to press against Logan's back gently. He'd still love Logan no matter what.

"Is it?" Logan asked, not looking so sure. "We talk about this stuff with you and Dale... and it bugs me. I dunno why, it just does. You have all these people in your life, and even though I do to, I keep feeling like I'm just not..."

He trailed off, not sure how he wanted to finish that thought, and took a deep breath. "I'm not so sure you do need me. I mean, you have Dale and Neil who are both... way less trouble then I am. I know that, you know? I'm not blind to it. And you have Jeroen who you want to take care of and... who the fuck knows who else. And I just feel like I'm weighing you down. Like maybe you'd be better off if I just took a step back and let you go."

"Logan, don't," Joe said, looking over at him with a small frown on his face, his hand rubbing against his back. "You're not fucking anything up, you're not weighing me down. I can't imagine my life without you in it. I don't know what I'd do without you around. Everything would feel wrong and I'd be fucking miserable and... I lost Stewie and I lost Billy and you're not allowed to take a step back, okay? You fucking get it? You can't."

Logan nodded, but he didn't look sure of it. "I won't, alright? I was just saying that sometimes I think I should. I don't want to make things worse for you, not now, not after... Not now that Billy's gone. I don't want to be the reason everything falls apart."

"You think wrong," Joe said firmly, his voice quiet and low. "You don't make anything worse. I like having you here, it makes things easier. It makes me happy."

Logan was quiet after that, unsure as to how he should reply. The silence was painful at first, but he settled into it and leaned into Joe a little with a sigh.

"Okay," he agreed.

"Okay, good," Joe said with a quiet sigh, his hand still on Logan's back. "Good." He hadn't lied to Logan, not since promising he wouldn't and everything he said he completely meant.

"Sorry, I dunno why I'm acting like this... like some kid who's mother's getting re-married or something. I mean, you said nothing's even happened yet, right? Why am I so... worried or whatever?"

"Nothing's happened," Joe assured him quietly. "It's way too much, way too soon. I don't think I could even just fuck around at this point." And with Dale it was more than that.

Logan nodded in understanding and sighed. "Do you feel guilty about it at all?" he asked. "The stuff that Dale told you before Billy left? I think it would drive me insane."

"Yeah," Joe said with a quiet laugh, lifting his hand to rub over his head again. "Yeah, sometimes I really fucking do. It's like I'm hurting them both just by being me. Like I fucking betrayed Billy and now he's gone and I can't even make amends."

"It's not your fault though," Logan shrugged. "I mean... it's not your fault that he had to go, and it's not your fault that you've got this thing with Dale or Dale has this thing with you. Whatever it is. I mean, you didn't do anything wrong. It must suck though, having it all happen at once.

"Yeah, it really does," Joe agreed, laughing again and continuing to rub his head. "I felt like an asshole keeping it from Billy, so I showed him the letter and he... he asked if I was sure I loved him. If I was sure I didn't wanna go be with Dale and I told him I loved him and then not long after he was gone."

"Maybe it was what he needed to hear," Logan suggested. "Maybe that's why he stayed as long as he did. I mean... he wasn't happy, Joe. I saw him. But he loved you, I know he loved you. Maybe... maybe that's the whole reason he was here."

"To what? Figure out whether or not I really loved him?" Joe asked. And it wasn't like he hadn't said the words countless times, but he knew words could be useless without meaning behind them. He and Billy hadn't exactly been the typical couple and they hadn't often been nice to each other, but Joe loved him.

"No... Maybe... Fuck I dunno. Forget I brought it up," Logan sighed, not even sure what he'd been trying to say.
